Mental Health

Mental health issues are on the rise. They are the result of both genetic and environmental factors. Unfortunately there is a lack of access to quality mental health care these days. In the West counselling and medication is the preferred treatment, but there is a desire for more natural treatments. Acupuncture is a safe, effective and drug-free way to help people recover from the effects of trauma and return to living happier, more fulfilling lives.

One of the drivers of poor mental health is severe or long-term stress. Stress triggers the sympathetic nervous system and can lead to overactivity of the adrenal glands, which over time can have a serious detrimental effect on both physical and mental health.

One of the major benefits of acupuncture for emotional trauma is it helps shift the autonomic nervous system, regulating the body’s unconscious actions out of sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight) into parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest mode).

Mental health disorders are medical conditions that affect a person’s feeling, thinking, mood, ability to interact with others and normal daily functioning. In some cases, people may not consciously remember the trauma they have experienced, but their bodies do and this can manifest as pain.

Acupuncture is a treatment for the mind, body, spirit and emotions; viewed as a whole. They are inextricably linked and disharmony in one affects the other. Treatment in one area will affect the other. Acupuncture can release and heal the emotional pain held in the body. It is a homeostatic mechanism by which the body can heal itself and establish a state of wellness.

I am trained in Five Element Acupuncture which is particularly effective for emotional and mental health issues.
If you’re feeling like your nervous system is stuck in overdrive, acupuncture may be the thing for you, to help restore balance and ease your symptoms.
